Jamshedpur: A total of 93 persons are living in inhumane conditions at a quarantine centre set up at Amar Jyoti School in Mango area of the city here. When TOI visited the centre on Thursday, the migrant workers, who had returned from Gujarat, Odisha, Mumbai and other parts of the country, were found using dirty washrooms, besides not getting other basic amenities.
District authorities said they were not aware of the condition, but assured to take action immediately.
The inmates, mostly from the Kolhan division, complained that they were not given adequate food, too. Patamda resident Vijay Hansda said the washrooms were not cleaned daily and there is lack of water. Moreover, there is fear of infection as the rooms in which they are living are not sanitized properly, he said, adding that no soaps and sanitizers were provided.
Another inmate, Deepak Kumar from Azad Bustee, described the experience inside the camp as like living in a jail. He, too, complained of dirty washrooms and inadequate food.
When informed about the situation, additional commissioner Saurav Sinha said, “I am not aware of the condition at the Amar Jyoti School quarantine centre. However, proper steps will be taken up on an urgent basis.”
Earlier, TOI had also reported about the lack of amenities at an isolation camp at Baharagora in East Singhbhum district. Inmates of the camp, which was located at the tri-junction of Jharkhand, Bengal and Odisha, had made similar complaints.
