India's official
coronavirus count reached 1,18,447 today, a 6,000+ jump over yesterday, the daily update by Union Health ministry revealed.
As of 8 am, the number of the dead is 3,583, while 48,534 people have been declared as cured/discharged.
A Health ministry analysis of
Covid deaths in India showed yesterday that the elderly and those with underlying conditions continue to be highest-risk groups. More than half the total fatalities in India were 60+, and 73% of the dead had co-morbidities such as diabetes, heart disorders and chronic kidney ailments.
The death rate from Covid in India stands at 3.06% (based on latest figures), significantly below the global rate of 6.65%.
As per the data, men cotinue to be at a higher risk in terms of fatalities (64% of deaths). About 0.5% of deaths were in the under-15 age group, 2.5% between 15 and 30 years, 11.4% between 30 and 45 years, 35.1% between 45-60 years and 50.5% among those above 60 years.
