Three dead after fiery Western Downs crash

Three people have been killed and two more taken to hospital after a fiery crash near Chinchilla in Queensland's Western Downs.

The group had been travelling on Chinchilla Tara Road about 5.50pm on Thursday when the incident occurred, police say.

About eight kilometres south of the town, the Holden Commodore sedan collided with a tree and burst into flames.

Two Tara men, aged 35 and 36, and a 40-year man from Dalby died at the scene.

The 42-year-old female driver was taken to nearby Chinchilla Hospital with serious injuries along with the fourth passenger, a 49-year-old Tara man, who suffered minor injuries.

The road was reopened early Friday morning, with investigations by the forensic crash unit ongoing.
