One in five Covid-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh are migrants

LUCKNOW: One in every five Covid-19 cases in UP belongs to the migrant workers category. As per data from the state health department, of the 5531 cases, 1230 were migrants. Health officials informed that the total number of active cases in the state was 2173. They also stated that the total number of recovered patients had reached 3204 with 138 fresh discharges.
The government also informed that the total number of Covid deaths had increased to 138 with 11 new entries. They however noted that nine of these deaths – one each in Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow Firozabad, Aligarh, Pratapgarh, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot and Etah -- were being audited to ascertain the exact cause of death. The remaining two deaths were clear Covid casualties reported in Gorakhpur.
While Barabanki added 104 fresh cases (of which 54 were officially reported on Thursday) in the past 24 hours, Ayodhya followed next with 19 cases. The new cases in Ayodhya were declared after a re-check. Jaunpur stood at the third position with 17 cases. Officials informed that 16 of these cases were migrants who returned from Mumbai and Surat.
Basti, which recorded a surge of 50 cases on Wednesday, saw 16 fresh cases. Azamgarh also recorded 16 cases. While Sultanpur saw 14 fresh cases, Kaushambi, Gghazipur, Siddhartnagar and Aligarh recorded 12 cases each. Rampur recorded 11 cases.
District with maximum load of Covid cases, Agra saw nine fresh entries taking the total to 845. Other districts which saw nine cases each were Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Mau, and Ambedkarnagar. Maharajganj and Bulandshaher saw eight and seven cases respectively. Meerut in the west and Srasvasti in the east saw six cases each while Kanpur, Unnao, Fatehpur, Amethi and Deoria, saw five cases.
Four cases each were seen in Amroha and Bijnore while three were seen in Bahraich, Pilibhit and Chitrakoot. Hamipur, Bhadoi, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura and Lucknow saw two cases each.
Districts with one case each included Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Jalaun, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mirzapur, Banda and Etawah.
