Ashley Macek, a senior at Somerset Berkley Regional High School, has signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend Merrimack College on a track and field scholarship.
A Berkley resident, Macek signed her NLI on Sunday and sent it to Merrimack, a Division 1 school in North Andover.
A sprinter, hurdler and jumper, Macek is a three-time Herald News All Scholastic, earning those honors outdoors the previous two springs and indoors this past winter.
Focused on having a memorable senior season, Macek delivered in the winter. At the State Division 4 Championships, she finished 11th in the hurdles and 12th in the long jump. She had personal bests of 9.02 in the hurdles and 16 feet, 3 inches in the long jump. She capped her season, and as it turns out her high school career, by finishing 21st out of 133 at the state pentathlon in Boston.
In her junior outdoor season, Macek was the Raiders’ third leading scorer (84 points) and was a force in the 100 meters (personal best 13.74), 100 hurdles (17.83) and long jump (16-3.75). At Eastern Massachusetts Division 3, Macek placed 12th in the long jump. She also qualified for Eastern Massachusetts 3 in the hurdles after having run the event only twice. She placed 18th at the South heptathlon.
With Merrimack track and field, Macek will join former SBR teammate Kathryn Sullivan, a sophomore hurdler sprinter and jumper. Macek's older brother Matthew also attends Merrimack.
