2 cops on duty test positive, contact tracing on

Gurgaon: Two policemen have tested positive for Covid-19 since Monday and are under treatment at the ESIC hospital in Sector 9.
One of the patients is a constable from Sector 18 and was on duty in a containment zone in Sirhaul, while the other is a head constable at Bajghera police station and was posted at the Delhi-Gurgaon border.
This is the first time that on-duty officers of Gurgaon police have tested positive. Earlier, a policeman working in the control room had tested positive when he was at home in Rewari.Contact tracing of both patients is being conducted, and so far, samples of around 50 policemen who came in contact with the two officers have been collected, said commissioner of police Mohammad Akil. These 50 policemen were initially quarantined and after all tested negative, most of them were released. “We have adequate safety equipment and arrangement of sanitisers, mask, gloves and face shield at all police stations. Additional arrangements can be made as per the requirements,” said Akil, adding that morale of the force is very high and they are committed to their work.
The two police stations have been sanitised and the policemen were directed to strictly abide by safety guidelines and social distancing.
While the services of these frontline workers are indispensable, they realise how daily exposure can be dangerous for them and their families. This is why most policemen on field duty have chosen to stay away from their families and sleep at the police stations. “I have not visited my home in two months,” said one of them.
On the request of policemen, a dedicated quarantine facility was set up in Sector 15 by the district administration for those officers who don’t want to go home when put in home quarantine.
But initially, the residents’ welfare association (RWA) of Sector 15 Part 1 had opposed the idea and had shot off a letter to the deputy commissioner, requesting him to change the location of the quarantine facility.
When TOI contacted RWA president Karan Singh Rao, he claimed they had now withdrawn their letter.
“We have no objection. The community centre where the quarantine facility is being set up comes under the MCG. We had written a letter to the DC requesting to change the location but now we have withdrawn our letter,” said Rao.
