From beauty queen to teacher, to firefighter

The gorgeous Jordyn Goddard is the newest firefighter in the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. Jordyn who is a former teacher and beauty pageant winner said, "It was always the second dream, I always had two dream jobs; I just happened to pursue one first."

The 28-year-old, Jordyn grew her passion for community service during her pursuit of another passion ‘Beauty pageants'. Speaking about her pageantry journey she said, “Pageants have been my hobby for many, many years. It introduced me to the concept of volunteerism and serving the community, which is why part of the reason why I think I'm here now."

She has participated at every level, local, national and international for 15 years, and has won multiple state pageants. She was also the runner-up for International Junior Miss and was placed in the top 10 for Miss United States.

Goddard is well aware of the hazards of this profession but wishes to fulfill her dream to be a firefighter to be of help to people in times of need. Her mother who was a paramedic and father a firefighter have always been her inspiration and today she wants to step up, not just fulfill her dream but also serve the society.

In times like this where people prefer to be safe in their homes, Jordyn gave up her job as a school teacher in Prince George's County to pursue her dream. She is excited to begin her work as a firefighter, even in such trying times. "I mean my job, and our job, here is to help people in their times of need and that's what we're here to do," she said.
