42 new Covid-19 cases and one more fatality in Assam; state's count rises to 157

GUWAHATI: Assam witnessed the highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases on Tuesday as 42 people tested positive, increasing the state's total case count to 157. The death toll also moved up a notch, taking the number of fatalities to four.
At present, the state has 110 active cases and 41 people have recovered so far.

Of the fresh cases, 14 have been detected inside the Sarusajai quarantine centre in Guwahati, where the total number of active cases has now increased to, the highest among all districts.
State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma went to Rangia in the morning to console the family of a 65-year-old man who tested Covid-19 positive after his death at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he was admitted for other ailments. "Unfortunately, a 65-year-old person from Rangiya died at the GMCH. Doctors on suspect took his swab after his death and tested it twice and both time it showed positive results. We are yet to ascretian how he got infected. His family members told us that he did not go out of his house. His son though moves around for his work," Sarma said.
The deceased person's village, Na Satra, has been declared as a containment zone within a radius of 500 metres.
