AHMEDABAD: One among the most affected Covid-19 districts in India, Ahmedabad on Wednesday crossed 9,000 cases with 9216 – 3398 added in just 10 days – and 600 deaths. In past 10 days, the district added 221 deaths.
In terms of mortality, the district’s rate of 6.5% is highest among the Indian cities having more than 5,000 total
Covid-19 positive cases. Compared to Ahmedabad, Mumbai’s mortality rate as on Wednesday evening is 3.5%, Delhi’s rate is 1.6% and Chennai is fourth with 0.7%.
Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Wednesday added 398 cases, third highest ever in a single day, and 30 deaths. Total tally of cases is now at 12,539 whereas total deaths are now at 749. Gujarat is third state in India in terms of total cases and second in terms of deaths.
Jayanti Ravi, principal secretary (health & family welfare), said that out of 30, Ahmedabad has recorded 26 deaths. After controversy over high death rate at Civil Hospital, she said that out of total deaths, 11 were recorded at
Civil Hospital whereas 4 were recorded at IKDRC, 3 at SVP Hospital and Sola Civil Hospital each, two at GCRI and GCS each and one at LG Hospital.
"A total of 176 patients were discharged in past 24 hours, taking the total number of discharged patients to 5219," said Ravi. "Now the state's recovery rate is 41.65%."
Ravi said that Gujarat currently has 6571 active patients out of which 47 are on ventilator. She added that the state is also augmenting the allopathic treatment with Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medicines at select hospitals such as Civil Hospital and SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad.
On Wednesday, Gujarat carried out highest ever 6,098 tests in a day, taking the total tests in the state to 1.6 lakh.
