Ludhiana: Taking suo motu cognisance of news reports about protests of migrant labourers in the city during the lockdown, Punjab State Human Rights Commission has sought a detailed report on the issue.
While referring to the news reports, the commission, comprising chairperson Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari and members Ashutosh Mohunta and Avinash Kaur, observed, “This reveals that hundreds of migrants protested against the state government for allegedly not making arrangements to send them back to their home state, Bihar. Some of them have accused the police of allegedly beating them up as well. The commission takes suo motu cognisance of the matter and calls for a report from the state government through the commissioner of police, Ludhiana, before the next date of hearing.”
The matter will come up for hearing on July 27.
