How Samsung may be an 'important part' of Apple iPhone 12

A lot has been reported about Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup — right from design to prices — in the past couple of weeks. Now we have new information on the display front of the upcoming iPhones that suggests that Apple is going to continue relying on Samsung for their displays.
As per the report by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), out of the four iPhones — iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max — that are reportedly coming in the second half of 2020, three of them are likely to house a display supplied by Samsung.
The iPhone 12, which is expected to house a 5.4-inch screen will feature flexible OLED from Samsung Display, claims the report. “We have seen reports that it will or will not have Y-OCTA. We believe it will have Y-OCTA integrated touch,” the report adds. The display resolution of the iPhone 12 is likely to be 2340 x 1080p with 475 PPI.
The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro is also expected to house a Samsung Display flexible OLED with 10-bits of colour. “The iPhone 12 is rumoured to be one of the first smartphones with 10-bits of color and should be a catalyst for driver IC suppliers,” claims the report. The display resolution of the iPhone 12 Pro has been claimed to be 2532 x 1170 with 460 PPI.
Lastly, the most-expensive iPhone of the upcoming lineup — iPhone 12 Pro Max — is going to house a display that will be exclusively supplied by Samsung Display, as per the report. This iPhone model is said to offer a 6.68-inch screen with 2778 x 1284 flexible OLED panel at 458 PPI.
The report also adds that there is a 6-week delay in the panel production, which means that rather than starting in the beginning of June, it may get delayed to July-end. This is automatically expected to delay the launch of the iPhone 12 from September to October.
