Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has a new ‘code word’ for developers
Microsoft hosted its Build 2020 developer’s conference online with CEO Satya Nadella highlighting the key role that developers will play in the near future to reshape the technology world.
Talking about the importance of developers in a conference dedicated to them is pretty obvious but there was a little code during Nadella’s virtual keynote speech that made techies curious. During the video message, Nadella appeared to be standing in front of a shelf which had all kinds of showpieces including a red cricket ball. While the placement of these objects on the shelf looked random in the background while Nadella was speaking, it can be easily guessed that every object had been carefully placed by Microsoft team to impart some message.
Out of the all random looking objects, a set of letters--RGV2cw--popped out on the shelf just on the right side of Nadella’s head in the video. Now, why would he have a random set of letters like “RGV2cw” to showcase during the keynote of Build 2020 when he had no branding of Build or Microsoft in the background.
“RGV2cw” immediately made developers and other viewers curious and people started to take turns to guess what it means on Twitter. Finally, some developers figured out that “RGV2cw” is a code in Base64 format and it simply means “devs”. Now you can verify the same by using any online Base64 decoder. Even Microsoft’s Scott Hanselman confirmed the same, as per a report by TechCrunch.
This subtle code for “devs” aimed at making them think even the basics to “reimagine the way we live and work” as per Nadella. “The role of developers has never been more important, from emergency response and recovery, to reimagining the way we live and work. And across our tech stack, we are creating new opportunities for developers to build the world we all want to live in,” he said.
