The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) recently launched an edutainment series, namely “Try this at home, tips from Singapore” with the aim of encouraging local and international viewers to explore or develop a passion, inspired by Singapore’s diverse people, talent and stories with the help of the video series. The series would be available in six parts.

The series will feature recognised personalities from Singapore such as sneaker artist Mark Ong, makers of Peranakan kebaya, brothers Raymond and Edmond Wong, artist Tan Zi Xi as well as cook, food writer, and television host Sarah Huang Benjamin. These personalities will be assigned various tasks which they have to complete in the series.

As a part of the activities for the series, Artist Tan Zi Xi was asked to perform an upcycling challenge with common household products. Similarly, brothers Raymond and Edmond Wong was challenged to beautify masks with a Peranakan touch to it. On the other hand, Sarah Huang Benjamin was given a packet of instant noodles alongside a note to turn it into a fancy meal with materials available in her fridge and sneaker artist Mark Ong along with his partner Sue-Anne is given the challenge to transform a piece of homewear into streetwear.

Four out of six parts of the series have already been updates across Singapore Tourism Board’s social media channels. The initiative arrived at a time when individuals across the world have been urged by governments to quarantine themselves and stay confined within their own homes to curb further spread of the coronavirus disease. The tourism board is using the video series as a medium to engage and involve people with activities related to the people, culture, talents, and stories of Singapore.
