The 2020 Hyundai Verna Is Officially Here

• The 2020 Verna is priced from Rs 9.30 lakh to Rs 15.09 lakh.
• There are five variants on offer: S, S+, SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Turbo.
• There are four gearbox options: CVT, 6-speed automatic, 6-speed manual, and a 7-speed DCT.
• The 1.0-litre Turbo petrol with DCT is only available in SX(O) Turbo variant.

A few weeks ago, we revealed all the details and variant-wise pricing of the Verna. Well, Hyundai has now officially launched the car in India. Since we already know everything about the 2020 Verna, here’s a quick refresher about Hyundai’s rival to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Honda City. 

The new Verna is offered with three BS6 powertrain options. First up is a 1.5-litre diesel engine, borrowed from the Kia Seltos. This engine is capable of producing 115PS and 250Nm, coupled to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The first petrol option is a 1.5-litre petrol engine that also powers the Seltos and the 2020 Creta. This engine is good for 115PS and 144Nm, paired up with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT. 

The final motor on the list is Hyundai’s 1.0-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol motor which we first saw in the Venue.  Figures for this engine stand at 120PS and 172Nm, mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. 

Prices now start from Rs 9.30 lakh for the 1.5-litre petrol base variant and go all the way up to Rs 15.09 lakh for the range-topping SX(O) diesel-automatic variant. The previous version of the sedan was priced between Rs 8.18 lakh and 14.08 lakh. The price increment was pretty much expected as the Verna is now offered with three new BS6 powertrains along with updated styling and features. 

The facelifted Verna can be had in five variants: S, S+, SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Turbo. As the name suggests, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is only available in the SX(O) Turbo variant. The 1.5-litre Gamma petrol engine is available in S, SX and SX(O) variants while the 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine is offered in S+, SX and SX(O). Colour options on offer include Phantom Black, Fiery Red, Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Titan Grey and Starry Night. 

Apart from the revised styling, the Verna also comes with some features addition like tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a semi-digital instrument cluster, Hyundai BlueLink connected car features, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear disc brakes (Turbo-only) and LED headlamps. The best addition of all, in our opinion, are the paddle shifters that are offered as standard on the 1.0-litre turbo petrol variant. 

Key players in the Verna’s segment include the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento, the upcoming Honda City 2020, and the Skoda Rapid TSI.
