Gains in banking, financial services and infrastructure stocks pushed the markets higher

At 10:17 am, the Sensex traded 562.12 points - or 1.87 per cent - higher at 30,591.10 while the Nifty was up 165.30 points - or 1.87 per cent - at 8,988.55.
Forty eight stocks in the Nifty basket of 50 shares moved higher at the time. Top percentage gainers were Bharti Airtel, ONGC, Tata Motors, JSW Steel and Adani Ports, trading between 4.47 per cent and 9.09 per cent higher.
HDFC Bank, HDFC and Bharti Airtel alone contributed more than 250 points to the gain in Sensex.
Bharti Airtel shares soared as much as 10 per cent in morning to touch the Rs 591.95 apiece mark on the BSE, a day after the private sector telecom major reported its earnings for the quarter ended March 31.

Japan was trading up 1.51 per cent in early trade. Japan's Nikkei 225, China's Shanghai Composite, Hong Kong's Hang Seng and South Korea's KOSPI benchmark indices were up 1.83 per cent, 0.78 per cent, 2.19 per cent and 1.85 per cent respectively.
The E-Mini S&P 500 futures were down 0.33 per cent in early Asian trade, indicating a weak start for the US markets on Tuesday.
Overnight in the US, Wall Street surged with the S&P 500 index ending 3.15 per cent higher, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite barometers rising 3.85 per cent and 2.44 per cent respectively.
The US-based drug maker Moderna Inc said its experimental COVID-19 vaccine showed promising results in a small early-stage trial, and its stock jumped 22.2 per cent.
Earlier on Monday, the Sensex had ended 1,068.75 points or 3.44 per cent lower at 30,028.98, and the Nifty settled at 8,823.25, down 3.43 per cent or 313.60 points compared with its previous close.
