The Nepal government on Monday released a new map citing Uttarakhand's Lipulekh and Kalapani as its area. Tensions persist between India and Nepal over the region. The Nepalese government had protested against Lipulekh and Kalapani as encroachments.

A Council of Ministers meeting was held to show Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani on the map presided over by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. After the meeting, it was decided to show these areas on the map of Nepal.

Nepal Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali tweeted that the Council of Ministers had decided to publish a new map of the country depicting seven provinces, 77 districts, and 753 local administrative divisions, including Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani. He said that the official map would be published soon by the Ministry of Land Management.

Culture and Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai thanked Oli in a tweet and said that this decision of the Council of Ministers will be written in golden letters in the pages of history.

At the same time, India has not yet responded to this step of Nepal. The Ministry of External Affairs had already stated that the transcripts are entirely within the territory of India. Road construction work was done near the border with China. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh recently launched the 80 km road, which ends at Lipulekh Pass. This road was constructed so that devotees going to Kailash-Mansarovar could avoid going through dangerous highways via Sikkim and Nepal.

Nepal is also displeased with the statement of Indian Army Chief Manoj Mukund Narwane, in which he said last week that the demonstration being done for the road along the border of Nepal is being done at some behest. The army chief was pointing towards China. Please tell that the Indian Army Chief is also the Honorary Chief of Nepal Army.

The decision by Nepal to release the map comes a day after thanking the Indian government for providing kits for medical tests and 30,000 trials as part of a collaboration to fight the COVID-19 epidemic. India has been consistently saying that both sides can resolve such border issues through diplomatic negotiations, although such talks will be held after the Kovid-19 crisis is resolved.
