KSRTC buses commence operation in Dakshina Kannada

MANGALURU: KSRTC Mangaluru division has started bus services to Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hubballi and taluk headquarters within Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday.
KSRTC Mangaluru divisional controller SN Aruna said that buses are being operated based on demand and all measures are taken to ensure social distancing in buses that operated with 50% of its capacity. Social distancing is maintained in all stages including ticket counters, he said adding that all buses are sanitized before the commencement of trip.
KSRTC has been operating buses ensuring that it would reach destinations before 7pm. Hence, no long distance buses to left Mangaluru depot after 11am. Meanwhile, they have not taken a decision on commencing city buses in Mangaluru. Strict measures including thermal scanning have been taken to prevent Covid-19 spread through passengers, he said.
At the entrance of the depot, each passenger is made to undergo thermal scanning to check the temperature before boarding the bus. Similarly, passengers are also asked to use sanitizer before boarding the bus. Officials have been collecting contact number, name and address of each passenger before the journey. At present, pregnant women, children below 10 years and elderly citizens above 60 years are not allowed to travel in the buses, he added.
Meanwhile, private buses remained off the road in the district on Tuesday though chief minister BS Yediyurappa has allowed conditional resuming of buses across the state barring Covid19 containment areas. Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association president Dilraj Alva told TOI that they have decided not to operate buses till the end of May.
