The Odisha government has started evacuating 11 lakh people from sensitive areas in view of the warning of strong winds and heavy rains due to cyclonic storm 'Amfan'. These people are being transported to temporary shelter homes. The West Bengal government has also started providing people from low-lying areas to safe places.

The Meteorological Department has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea. Regional Director of Meteorological Department in Kolkata, Dr. Ganesh Kumar Das said that the super cyclone has formed in the Bay of Bengal after decades. The wind speed in this storm can be more than 220 km per hour. The cyclone is moving rapidly across the Bay of North-West Bengal towards West Bengal. It is expected to hit the coast between Digha in the Bengal and Hatia islands of Bangladesh on 20 May.

The Bengal government has started the process of evacuating people from the coastal areas of the Sunderbans in South 24-Parganas and Digha in East Medinipur district. Preparations have also been made to rescue from Corona at these places. Special control rooms have been set up in the state. Odisha Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena said that the district magistrates of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda and Nayagarh have been asked to evacuate people from sensitive areas. These people will be accommodated in 567 relief camps in 12 coastal districts. Arrangements have also been made in these camps to prevent corona infection.

37 NDRF teams ready to deal with cyclone: ​​DG

DG SN Pradhan of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has said that 37 of our teams are fully prepared to meet the challenge of Cyclone Amfan. Each team of NDRF consists of 45 people. 25 teams have been deployed in seven districts of Odisha and six districts of West Bengal. He said that cyclone Amfan is coming in the midst of the threat of Kovi-19. In such a situation, there is a double challenge for us.

50 boats damaged due to rain and storm in Rameswaram

Pamban port authorities in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu have issued Cyclone Warning Cage No. 2 on the Pamban Bridge in view of cyclonic storm Amphan. These cyclonic signals mean the signs of a cyclonic storm. They are divided into 11 categories from one to 11 numbers. About 50 fishermen's boats were damaged in Rameswaram due to the storm and rain on Sunday night.

Heavy rains in many parts of Kerala and Karnataka

In Karnataka, the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district received heavy thunderstorms and heavy thunderstorms. The rain had started from Sunday evening but by Monday morning it caught a high speed. Due to this, a yellow alert has been issued in the coastal areas by Tuesday. A 20-year-old youth died after falling home in Udupi district. At the same time, vegetables and fruits kept in the Agricultural Produce Market Committee located in Bikampady were ruined due to heavy rains.

PM Modi gave confidence to states for help

The cyclonic storm 'Amfan' being formed in the Bay of Bengal has turned into a super cyclone. The cyclone, which has assumed the form of a giant, may cross the coast of West Bengal and Bangladesh on 20 May. Due to this, the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal may receive heavy rains with strong winds. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a high-level meeting to review preparations to deal with 'Amfan' and assured the states of all possible help from the Center.

Immediately after the meeting, the PM tweeted that he prays for everyone to be safe and assures all possible help from the Central Government. Earlier, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement that PM Modi took information about the situation arising out of 'Amfan', preparations and evacuation of people. During the presentation of the response plan, the NDRF DG stated that 25 teams have been deployed in both the states while 12 have been kept in reserve. Also, 24 other teams have been put on standby in different parts of the country. Home Minister Amit Shah was also present in the meeting.
