Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar
PATNA: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday asked government officials to ensure re-opening of Aadhaar enrolment centres at all block headquarters across the state while maintaining the norms of physical distancing.
These Aadhaar centres were closed temporarily around March 25 after announcement of nation-wide lockdown due to covid-19 pandemic.
Bihar has altogether 534 blocks in its 38 districts. Aadhaar centres were operational at majority of block headquarters before the lockdown.
Holding a review meeting with ministers and officials of different departments through video conferencing, Nitish further said the facility of Aadhaar enrolment was currently being made available at altogether 27 District Registration-cum-Counselling Centres (DRCCs). “Officials should ensure this facility at all 38 DRCCs across the state,” he said.
CM said any person in the age group of 10 to 65 years can enrol for Aadhaar if he/she is so far not registered for the unique identification number.
He further asked the officials to verify whether all returned migrant workers have their Aadhaar number. “If any migrant worker currently staying at a quarantine centre do not has Aadhaar number, he can immediately enrol for the same at the nearby enrolment centre,” CM said.
An UIDAI official said, around 3,000 Aadhaar enrolment centres were operational in Bihar before the lockdown. Majority of these centres were running in the premises of post office and commercial banks.
