Priyanka Gandhi shares details of buses with UP govt to ferry migrants

NEW DELHI: To ferry migrant labourers back to the state, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi's office has sent a letter to Uttar Pradesh additional chief secretary (home) Awanish Awasthialong with details of buses/drivers asking the location and time where these buses need to reach.
Writing to Gandhi’s personal secretary on the directions of CM, additional chief secretary (home) Awanish Awasthi had asked the party to immediately provide a list of the buses, along with names and other details of the drivers and assistants, so that the service could be started at the earliest.
The list has been sent, we expect that the UP govt will take steps towards sending migrants their homes.
When Priyanka’s secretary replied that the details of the buses have been sent through email, Awasthi wrote back that the Lucknow DM had been apprised about it. “Please make available the fitness certificate of the buses, drivers’ details and their driving licences to the DM at Sector 15-16, Vrindavan Yojana, Lucknow by Tuesday 9am.”
Thanking the CM for allowing Congress to operate the buses, Gandhi said: “It is our responsibility and our right to help people during this pandemic. Congress is fulfilling its duties and these buses are an extension of our services… I assure you on behalf of Congress that we will continue to support the distressed people of UP who are affected by this pandemic and the lockdown.”
On May 16, Gandhi had written to the CM saying that Congress would pay to operate 500 buses from the Ghazipur border and another 500 from the Noida border.
