MYSURU: In a big boost to the Covid-19 test facility, Covid-19 lab at the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) has started functioning. Dr L Ravi, district health officer (DHO) informed that ICMR issued permission on Monday and lab started functioning from Tuesday. "Today we tested local samples," he said.
It can be recalled that the lab was inaugurated on May 6 by district in charge minister S Suresh Kumar who is also the education minister of Karnataka.
This lab has come at the microbiology department of the institute. It is a Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) instrument.
This is an automated lab with 96 sample capacity. Every day around 300 samples can be tested.
With this, South Karnataka got one more lab facility. Already Covid-19 testing labs are functioning at
Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hassan, and Mandya. This is the new addition to the list of operational labs with ICMR approval.
