Jharkhand recorded eight fresh Covid cases, all of them migrant workers who have returned from different parts of the country, on Monday, as
West Singhbhum and Gumla became the 18th and 19th of the 24 districts in the state to be affected by the virus wth one case each.
With 14 patients recovering across the state, including six in Ranchi, Jharkhand’s Covid tally now stands at 231, of which 101 are active while 128 have recovered and two have died. Two districts — Jamtara and Godda — became Covid-free as two and one patient were discharged. In Palamu, five patients have overcame the viral infection.
West Singhbhum DC Arava Rajkamal said: “Our first Covid case is a 22-year-old man from Manoharpur who returned from Chennai on May 14 on Shramik special train. He was in institutional quarantine at Chaibasa and has now been shifted to a hospital in Chakradharpur.”
East Singhbhum also recorded a fresh case, taking the total to five. “A 21-year-old from Jamshedpur town who arrived on May 15 on a bus has tested positive. He was admitted to the isolation ward of MGM hospital as he had a travelled from a red zone,” East Singhbhum DC Ravi Shankar Shukla said.
Lathehar recorded two positive case on Monday while Garhwa, Dhanbad and Hazaribag reported one each on Monday. All of them have returned from red zones in various parts of the country.
“A 40-year-old migrant worker in Hazaribag who returned from Maharashtra on May 13 has tested positive. The patient was traced by district authorities upon his arrival at Shankarpur and was shifted to a quarantine centre. The patient has been admitted to Hazaribag Medical College and hospital,” Hazaribag DC Bhuvnesh Prasad Singh said.
In Dhanbad, a resident of Gomoh block who had also arrived from Mumbai and was in institutional quarantine tested positive. “the 26-year-old has been shifted to BCCL hospital from the PMCH isolation centre for,” said Dhanbad DC Amit Kumar.
In Garhwa, a 26-year-old who returned on foot and cycle from Thane in Maharashtra tested positive on Monday. “The patient is a resident of Bahwnathpur block and was screened as soon as he entered Garhwa on May 15. He was put in institutional quarantine,” said Garhwa DDC Naman Priyesh Lakra.
