Uncle stabs boy for not lighting cigarette in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The city police arrested a 43-year-old man for stabbing his younger sister’s son who refused to light a cigarette for him. The accused, A Manikandan, 43, from Bajanaikovil street in Ramanathapuram locality of the city, was working as a car driver.
Police said Yogesh, 15, son of Krishnamani from Market Road at Irugur, had visited his maternal uncle Manikandan’s house at Ramanathapuram a few days ago. On Saturday night, Manikandan asked Yogesh to light his cigarette. The boy, a student of Class X, refused and scolded his uncle for asking him to light the cigarette. Manikandan turned angry and stabbed at the boy’s abdomen. Family members of Manikadan took the boy to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where he is undergoing treatment and is said to be stable.
The boy’s father lodged a complaint with Ramanathapuram police, based on which Manikandan was arrested on Sunday. He was booked under IPC Sections 294 (b) (utters any obscene words in public place), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation). He has been remanded to judicial custody and is lodged at Coimbatore central prison.
