A cruise ship passenger and an aged care resident; a Perth man and a Sydney woman.
The country's 1st and 100th coronavirus deaths are emblematic of the destruction this virus has left across Australia.
On March 1, Australia recorded its first coronavirus death, a 78-year-old Perth man who had been a passenger on the Diamond Princess, off the coast of Japan.
He would be the first of dozens of cruise ship passengers to lose their life after being diagnosed with COVID-19, including 22 who disembarked the Ruby Princess ship in Sydney almost three weeks later.
Today, we reported the death of Alice Bacon, a 93-year-old resident of Newmarch House. She is the 19th person to die at the aged care facility after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
In addition to these 100 deaths, there have been four known cases of people dying shortly after recovering from the virus.
Two of these were also Newmarch House residents, including 92-year-old Fay Rendoth. Two other deaths in recently recovered COVID-19 patients were confirmed in Tasmania's north-west overnight.
