A motorist was caught almost doubling the speed limit on the A55.

The incident over the weekend saw the vehicle travelling at 133mph past the average speed camera on the Rhuallt Hill.

The speed limit along that stretch is 70mph.

Go Safe tweeted about the incident today, saying: "The speed limit along the average speed camera route of the A55, Rhuallt Hill is 70mph.

"One vehicle was recorded travelling at 133mph along this road. Almost double the speed limit!

"The consequences of speeding can be devastating."

Go Safe have warned there has been an increase in the number of vehicles exceeding the speed limit to a "higher extent" since the coronavirus lockdown.

In a blog post shared by Go Safe, a spokesperson said: "Higher speeds on our roads will lead to more collisions, which leads to more casualties which will put more pressure on our NHS.

"Please, play your part in keeping our communities safe, to reduce the risk of collisions and injuries and reduce the pressure on our NHS.

"We enforce to ensure compliance with the speed limit.

"Remember – the world may have changed, but the speed limits have not."
