There were snarls at the Noida border as the UP police insisted on passes issued by the Noida authorities.
According to the traffic police, Delhi saw a 40% spike in the vehicle volume from the usual 12,000-15,000 during the previous phases of the lockdown. There was also movement of some specially hired buses and auto-rickshaws on some stretches like Aurobindo Marg and MB Road.
Snarls were reported on the Barapullah due to the DND backlog and at the pickets along the Ring Road as cops checked vehicles for violations. Cops stopped car drivers found to be carrying more than two passengers and warned them.
Senior police officials stated that people stepped out to head to workplaces in hired vehicles leading to snarls in areas like ITO, Pragati Maidan and Connaught Place.
“We will be cracking down on people found roaming around without purpose. Many don’t have document or valid reasons, if we find such people on road from Tuesday onwards, strict legal actions would be taken against them,” he said.
