Gella Hanan was born on the Mediterranean island of Rhodes and belonged to a Sephardic Jewish community established on the island since the early 1500's. In July 1944, most of that community was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau and subsequently perished during the Holocaust. Gella survived her time at Auschwitz-Birkenau and was transferred to Dachau where American troops liberated her at the end of April of 1945.

In The Family Treasure, the author takes the reader along on his journey of personal growth and the gradual revelation of his family's history as it unfolded surrounding turning points in the chronicle of an uncommon Jewish community. His discoveries include previously unknown stories of resilience, fateful turning points, heartrending tragedy, and redemption in far-away lands.

This is the author's first book, written to fulfill his late mother's wish and honor his grandmother as well as the community from which she originated. The book is available now at Amazon in paperback and e-book formats.
