The bus lost control and rammed into the bridge on Eastern Express highway in Mulund.MUMBAI: In a freak accident atleast two women travelling in a private luxury bus were seriously injured while 15 others received minor injuries when the bus lost control and rammed into the bridge on Eastern Express highway in Mulund on late Monday evening.
The Navghar police have arrested the bus driver, its owner and an assistant who had arranged to ferry around 17 passengers from Mumbai to Aurangabad illegally. Police have booked them under rash and negligence act as well under the disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant and Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life. Navghar police said they were released on cash bail.
According to the police, the incident took place late Monday night at around 11.30pm when the bus was carrying around 17 passengers mostly from Ghatkopar and Chembur to Aurangabad. "It appears that the driver got confused to whether take a flyover or go from down and in the confusion he rammed into the railings of the mouth of the bridge in which he lost control of the vehicle. The impact was that the rear as well front wheels came out of the axle. Two women passengers received serious injuries while rest of 15 got minor injuries.
The bus driver did not had any travel documents or permit to ferry these passengers interstate. All the vehicles ferrying passengers within the state needs a special permission from the collector office. The collector issues passes only if the person travelling is staying in green and orange zone and red zone is strictly prohibited.
