Maharashtra University final year exams: Govt wrote to UGC for the cancellation, says Uday Samant

PUNE: A letter has been written to University Grants Commission requesting permission to cancel the examination for final year students in colleges across the state, said higher and technical education minister Uday Samant on Tuesday on a live broadcast on a social media platform. In wake of the Covid crisis, there is rising insecurity and stress among students and hence the government has asked UGC to guide on adopting a gradation pattern for the passing out students, said Samant.
"We have been getting responses from students asking for the cancellation of examination and even minister Aditya Thackeray had written to UGC regarding the same. We will wait for two days for their response. In case we do not get a response from them, we will conduct a meeting of the officials and will also meet the vice-chancellors of various universities and declare our decision within two days."
Meanwhile, Samant also said that while revised dates for Common Entrance Tests have been declared to be July 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 28, 29, 30 and 31; students who miss out giving exams on these days will also be allowed on August 3, 4 and 5. However, keeping the Covid 19 situation in mind, even these decisions can be revised. Provision to change the centre of the examination will also be extended to students.
