VW’s Upcoming Tiguan Coupe Is Somewhat Of An Enigma

Back in March, we got wind that VW was working on a Coupe version of the Tiguan reportedly based on the longer-wheelbase Tiguan Allspace, also known as the Tiguan L in China.

According to Chinese outlet Autohome, the Tiguan Coupe (possibly called Tiguan X) will share its engine range with the regular model and could end up being sold in multiple markets around the world.

So what are we looking at here? It’s a rendering courtesy of Kolesa, based on those early March spy images, including the partly visible grille and front bumper design, as well as the overall body shape and design lines of the crossover.

The render also takes into account the decklid spoiler, as well as the possible shape of the taillights, although the end product might end up looking a bit different when viewed from the rear compared to this digital interpretation.

What’s interesting about the Tiguan Coupe is that if it is indeed based on the Allspace variant, its wheelbase will measure 2,787 mm (109.7 inches), with overall length possibly around the same 4,701 mm (185 inches) as before and width at 1,839 mm (72.4 inches).

These dimensions would make it smaller than a BMW X4, but larger than an Audi Q3 Sportback (although still less wide). If VW would use the regular Tiguan as a basis, then you could make the case for the Coupe version being a cheaper alternative to the Q3 Sportback, as they would measure about the same.

As for its engine range, expect to see an assortment of gasoline and diesel engines, such as VW’s 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TDI units.
