Pune: Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar on Monday appealed to people to start following social distancing norms and precautions related to COVID-19 pandemic. The Centre recently allowed relaxation in many fields in the fourth phase of lockdown and it is expected that people will get back to their normal lives in a phased manner.

Mhaisekar said, "The COVID-19 vaccine is expected by December or January next year but till we get a vaccine we should get used to the precautionary measures to be taken to contain the pandemic. We should keep ourselves safe and imbibe all rules in our daily lives. Going ahead we will have to avoid going in crowded lifts and maintain a safe distance from people. Similarly, the use of masks would be a routine affair. We have to adopt a 2D strategy that is disinfected and destroy. We will have to destroy masks which are not reusable and similarly we have to disinfect things we use regularly to contain the pandemic," added Mhaisekar.

He said that in Pune division around 5 per cent infected people have lost their lives and about 46 per cent have been discharged after they were cured of COVID-19.
