Gumla: The officer in-charge of Raidih police station in Gumla, Sanjay Kumar, helped reunite a 70-year-old woman with her husband in Bihar. Kumar said he spotted Chameli Devi while patrolling the naxal-affected Lauki village on May 10. He added that some locals had contacted them to inform about the suspicious movement of a lady in their area. The villagers feared that the septuagenarian woman was Covid-positive.
Kumar said, “The woman appeared to be mentally unstable. She was also weak. We, therefore, took her to a local shelter home. After two days, she could only tell us the name of her husband and that she is from Hajipur in Bihar.”
The officer then tried to trace the woman’s family by sharing her information on various WhatsApp groups of police personnel. Kumar said, “After a couple of days, her family members contacted us through their local police station. Then, we made her speak with her husband over a video call.” Her family members, including her husband Chandradev Bhagat, had believed that the woman had died.
“We arranged a road permit and hired an SUV to send the woman back to her home on Sunday,” Kumar said.
Bhagat said his wife went missing from Hajipur on November 8, 2015. A missing diary was filed a week later. The couple has two sons.
