21kg of cannabis, Rs 20 lakh in cash seized from Vaniyambadi house

VELLORE: A special team of police raided the house of a woman liquor seller at Vaniyambadi in Tamil Nadu and seized 21kg of cannabis, Rs 20 lakh in cash, three motorcycles and 40 property documents.
The accused has been identified as S Magheshwari, 38, who owns any immovable properties worth crores of rupees.
A nine-member gang, including three minors were accused in the case, police said.
Seven of them were arrested. The police were on the lookout for two accused who were absconding.
Tirupattur district superintendent of police P Vijaya Kumar said, "There were many complaints about liquor being sold illegally at Vaniyambadi. Following these complaints, a special team headed by Vaniyambadi DSP Balakrishnan raided the house of Magheshwari on Sunday.”
Two of the accused while only seven were arrested. The other accused include Mageshwari’s son S Devandiran, 19, her relatives A Usha, 35, C Kaviya, 18, and three minors.
Investigations revealed that Mageshwari had bought immovable assets like houses and lands using money earned by selling cannabis. “So far, we have seized 40 property documents of the accused. Investigations were on to reveal other properties,” said Vijaya Kumar.
The Vaniyambadi taluk police registered a case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Magheswari had been arrested several times earlier for illegal sale of liquor and was detained under Goondas Act in 2017, the SP added.
During the arrest, a commotion broke out and woman constable Surya was injured. She was admitted to Vaniyambadi Government Hospital.
