GURUGRAM: With the extension of
lockdown, city-based industrialists say till the time interstate movement is not allowed, it will be difficult to make the industries operational. For the workers and raw materials, there is a lot of interdependence on
Delhi-NCR cities, they say, urging the agencies concerned to develop mechanisms for interstate movement.
“Be it workers or raw materials, there is a lot of interdependence on Delhi-NCR cities. So, without interstate movement, especially between Delhi and Haryana, it will be difficult to make the industries operational,” JN Mangla, president of Gurugram Industrial Association (
GIA), told TOI.
Moreover, HP Yadav, the president of NCR Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said nearly 50% migrant workforce have already left for their home towns, “and only 50% is available”. “It is not possible in the current scenario to arrange for accommodation, food and transportation of the workforce without the support of the state government,” he said.
He urged the state government to allow transportation and operation of industries in full swing in order to revive the economy.
However, Pawan Yadav, the president of IMT Industrial Association, said during the lockdown, interstate movement will not be a problem as the government has eased the restrictions. “And as far as the workforce is concerned, they will start returning once the industries start functioning in full capacity,” he said.
