New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's lifelong passion for muscle cars seeped into his somber duties guiding the state's response to the coronavirus pandemic last week.
Cuomo, who learned to work on engines from a teenage job as a gas station attendant, counts a 1968 Pontiac GTO convertible and a 1975 Corvette among his collection of classics. He keeps a photo of the Corvette, which he calls "Blue Angel," on his office desk, and his 60th birthday celebration in 2017 included a cake made to resemble the car.
When the Democratic governor began talking about a state-created "dashboard" of information about the crisis during one of his televised daily briefings, he said something different initially came to mind when the idea was suggested.
