GURUGRAM: The number of
Covid-19 cases in the city went past the 200 mark on Sunday, with 11 more people testing positive for the virus. Gurugram now has 203 cases, with 130 of them reported in just the last two weeks.
It accounts for the highest number of cases in the state, which has so far reported 910 cases.
The district now has 100 active cases, while 103 people have been discharged after recovery. The city's case count was 73 on May 3, after which there was a spike, with many of them linked to Delhi's Azadpur mandi.
The cases reported on Sunday were from different parts of the city. They include one person in Shakti Nagar who came in contact with a vegetable vendor with the infection, a resident of Sirhaul who came in contact with a security guard who had tested positive, two people in Ravi Nagar from where four cases were reported on Saturday, a health worker who lives in Sector 10A, a resident of Sector 9A and one case each in Mullahera, Sector 48, Sector 55, Sushant Lok 1 and
Khandsa road.
“Most of the
new cases are contacts of other cases. We are able to trace the patients through constant screening and testing. With cases increasing, we might soon add more containment zones in the city. Our teams are conducting tests in urban clusters after we observed that many vegetable vendors, security guards and people who work in small industrial setups are getting affected as they live in close proximity in urban in and around societies and highrises,” said a senior health department official.
The health department has made a detailed report on these clusters and are conducting rapid testing to curb the spread of the virus. “Our ASHA workers are screening and testing people in Ghata, Chakkarpur and Tigra where a majority of maids and security guards live,” said JS Punia, chief medical officer, Gurugram.
Three cases in Palwal after two weeksMeanwhile, two people tested positive for Covid in Palwal on Saturday, taking the district’s total to 39. These new cases are contacts of a person who tested positive on Friday, the first case after a gap of two weeks. The patient works at a Mother Dairy booth in Delhi and had returned to Palwal five days back.
“A total of 36 patients have been discharged in the district so far. We got three new cases this week. Both are contacts of the person who came from Delhi and was already infected. We are tracing all contacts. We have also revised our containment plans as in the last 28 days we didn’t come across any positive cases in our containment zones. The number of containment zones in the district has come down from 20 in March-end to five,” said Brahmdeep Sandhu, chief medical officer, Palwal.
