With barely six hours left to end the lockdown imposed on the Kovid-19, the government announced on Sunday to increase it again. The new order increased the lockdown to 31 May but exempted it from certain restrictions. It allowed offices, factories, and other industrial units to be reopened. Like air travel, Metro services are still not allowed to start. In this way, large crowds, shopping malls, and cinema halls have not been allowed to open.
The night-time curfew, which prohibits movement of people from 7 pm to 7 am, will also remain intact. Also, the elderly over 65 years, pregnant women and children below 10 years of age have been asked to stay in homes. At the same time, those who want to resume the operation of state buses can do so. Inter-state bus services are also allowed in the lockdown guidelines issued by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, provided the states involved give their consent.
In addition, the government has also lifted restrictions on barbershops and e-commerce sites such as Amazon. However, these exemptions may not apply to everyone. The central government has given prominence to the states to fight the Kovid-19, allowing them to decide areas that should be marked as Green, Orange, or Red zones. State governments have also been empowered to impose restrictions in these areas.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had told the central government that he was in favor of banning schools, salons, barbershops, cinema halls, hotels, and restaurants. However, Kejriwal wanted the center to allow the shopping mall to open. The Home Ministry guidelines did not accept the suggestion to open shopping malls. But for the rest, chief ministers will have the power to decide what they can open, and for how long.
