If you have a microwave safe mug, a few simple ingredients, and a few minutes, you can make yourself a delicious sweet treat right now
Baking continues to be a trend during the nationwide lockdown. However, if you're not in the mood to bake a full size cake, we have your fix. Mug cakes are super easy to bake and all you have to make one is mix a few ingredients in a mug, pop it in the microwave for a few seconds, and pull out a delicious treat when your sweet tooth calls. Vogue spoke to Shivesh Bhatia, a self-taught baker and the founder of Bake with Shivesh, to get some of his favourite recipes for you to bake at home.
¼ cup all purpose flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
¼ tsp baking powder
2 tbsp castor sugar
2 tsp vegetable oil
¼ cup milk
2 tbsp Nutella

Add the dry ingredients in a microwave safe mug and mix it with a spoon until well combined.

Add the vegetable oil, milk and Nutella to the dry mixture. Combine this mixture nicely until the batter comes together.

Microwave the mug cake for 70 seconds. Serve warm, with your choice of toppings.
¼ cup all purpose flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
¼ tsp baking powder
¼ cup milk
2 tsp oil
2 tbsp mashed banana
2 tbsp chocolate chips

In a microwave safe cup, add the dry ingredients and give it a good mix.

Add milk, oil and mashed bananas to the dry mix. Using a spoon, mix well until combined.

Top the batter with chocolate chips and microwave for 70 seconds.

Top with sliced bananas and dig in.

2 tbsp castor sugar

Add all your dry ingredients in a microwave safe mug and mix them well.

To your dry mix, add milk, oil and cream cheese. Combine this well until the batter looks smooth.

Add in the Oreos and fold gently. Microwave for 70 seconds.

Once done, top with a dollop of cream cheese and serve.

Top with crushed peanuts and microwave for 70 seconds.

Drizzle caramel while the mug is warm and devour.

1 tsp red food colour
½ tbsp cream cheese

In a small bowl mix the milk and vinegar and set aside.

In a microwave-safe bowl add the flour, castor sugar, cocoa powder and baking powder.

Add the oil, milk and vinegar mixture and red food colour to the dry ingredients and mix until everything is combined.

Add the cream cheese in the centre of the batter.

Heat in the microwave for 70 seconds and serve.
