Daily sports briefs | Confusion over Pieter-Steph du Toit's contract, Nick Kyrgios has more to say, latest from the EPL - and more!

Pieter-Steph du Toit

PIETER STEPH'S CONTRACT CONFUSION

The confusion surrounding Pieter-Steph du Toit's contract with the Western Province Rugby Union appears to have been clarified. Without boring you with the details, it seems that PSDT is committed to WP and SA rugby for the foreseeable future, but needed to revise a clause in his contract(s) pertaining to image rights. Under his previous agreement, his image rights were pooled with others but since his global exposure has increased exponentially over the past year as World Player of the Year and world champion, he has the right to renegotiate that part of his contract.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: PDST's loyalty is not in question. He absolutely has the right to renegotiate his commercial value as this has been well earned. After all, this is where the real earning power of superstar sportsmen comes into play. Just ask Michael Jordan or David Beckham!

KYRGIOS RIPS INTO FELLOW TOUR PROS ... AGAIN

Outspoken Nick Kyrgios has courted controversy once again by laying into fellow pros during a boozy Instagram video chat with Andy Murray. Kyrgios, who claimed to have had 6 glasses of wine prior to the chat, insinuated that Dominic Thiem had no personality "... he'd prefer to watch paint dry", that Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas hate each other and only pretended to be friends during the Laver Cup and that Murray is better than Novak Djokovic. He rounded off his verbals with a swipe at Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal ... "We don't care about Nadal, Djokovic and Feds man. We all love you (Murray). Ordinary people like us love you."

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: Since when did a 25-year-old underachiever become an unofficial  spokesperson for the tour? Kyrgios sober is embarrassing enough, add some sauce and he becomes seriously cringeworthy. At some stage he needs to let his tennis do the talking.

PROJECT RESTART WITH A MAJOR TWIST

EPL fans who were worried about watching games on TV in empty stadiums without the atmosphere generated by 50 000 supporters may be compensated by additional features that they otherwise would not get, if proposals by SkySports and BTSport getting approval. The Daily Mail is reporting that the aforementioned TV broadcasters are pushing for enhanced features such as a live audio feed from the dugouts, a camera and audio feed in the change rooms at halftime, as well as half-time  interviews with players and managers of both teams.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: This could be interesting and would certainly help. We have noticed some advantages of watching UFC without fans such as being able to hear the impact of punches and kicks, the heavy breathing of a fighter getting tired and the advice from their coaches throughout the fight. The only problem for footy? ... the bleep censor will be on overdrive.
