Pargat SinghJALANDHAR: Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh called for a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) to review working of the Punjab government over the last three years. He also recommended formation of the liquor corporation to increase state revenue.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Pargat Singh said now that it is clear that people will have to live with Covid-19, other important issues related to Punjab could not be ignored.
“Either the CM or Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar can call the CLP meeting so that issues are discussed in detail,” he said, mentioning issues like sacrilege, mining and drugs.
Pargat’s suggestions came in the backdrop of an uproar among ministers and likely confrontation with the chief secretary over the excise policy. On the liquor corporation, he said, “During assembly elections, I gathered information from the states which have liquor corporation. In 2017, it was said time was short to announce the budget but no steps were taken. Even in the fourth year, there was no word on it. Had a corporation been formed in the last three years, the state could have earned revenue of around Rs 15,000 crore more from excise.”
