Uddhav Thackeray taking oath as MLCMUMBAI: Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Monday became an official member of legislative council (MLC) after taking oath in presence of Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar chairman of the state legislative council. Eight more members also took oath as MLCs at the Vidhan Bhavan.
The MLcs were elected unopposed for a term of six years ending in 2026. Uddhav is second member of the Thackeray family to participate in electoral process, after his son Aaditya who contested and won the state assembly polls from Worli constituency last year.
On last Thursday, the state election office declared all nine candidates, elected as MLCs unopposed including CM Thackeray, Neelam Gorhe (Sena), BJP’s Gopichand Padalkar, Praveen Datke, Ranjitsinh Mohite-Patil and Ramesh Karad, NCP’s Shashikant Shinde and Amol Mitkari, and Rajesh Rathod of Congress.
According to provisions of the Constitution, any leader who is not a member of either of the houses, legislative assembly or council, has to become member of the legislature within the next six months of taking oath of the ministerial post. Thackeray took over as chief minister on November 28, 2019.
