Greater Noida: In an attempt to stop migrants from leaving the district, and with more industries and offices expected to open up, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) on Sunday floated a form to register workers who are looking for jobs.
The labour helpline form will be circulated by the authority, along with other informal channels like panchayat heads and RWA members. The form will collect skill details of construction labourers, sanitation workers, gardeners, factory line workers, domestic staff, drivers, plumbers, helpers, carpenters, cooks and other groups.
“We are trying to get as many workers as possible to stay back. There are several workers in Greater Noida who can be employed at various companies that are opening up. People can register their names and we will try to connect both the groups,” said Narendra Bhooshan, CEO, GNIDA.
Officials said that they will assure workers about the availability of jobs within the city so that they can stay back. There are six lakh registered workers in the district, many of whom have already left for their homes in other districts and states. Meanwhile, some of the companies that are opening up are facing a labour shortage.
Officials said that 273 people registered on the portal on Sunday. However, more are expected to register during the week. “Since it was a Sunday, not many people could reach out to the workers. Monday onward, officials will be asking more migrant workers to register. We will also seek help from informal groups like village heads and RWA members who are in touch with the workers. We will also ask shelter homes to keep track of people who may want to stay back,” said another official from GNIDA.
With some of the projects starting, the authority may also employ some of the construction and sanitation workers for its work.
