Voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Baidu have become popular especially when the use of touch interfaces is inconvenient or difficult, for example while driving. However, developing an in-vehicle dialog system is still a considerable challenge, since voice assistants only support a limited set of dialog phenomena and a conservative framework to integrate external knowledge sources, whereas modern cars need access to connected and even cloud-based knowledge sources.

In this 60-minute free Automotive World webinar, our Voice User Experience experts at Elektrobit, Soyuj Kumar Sahoo and Dr. Timo Sowa, discuss a dialog -tooling and -management solution for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) applications to export, deploy and maintain dialog models to on-market voice assistants. The approach is brand agnostic and currently, can be integrated with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The core advantages of our solution are tooling and framework for vendor-independent dialog modeling, cross-vendor voice assistant integration, and improved dialog capabilities for automotive applications. This flexible dialog tooling framework simplifies the process for users while modelling complex voice user interfaces employing domain models for internal and external knowledge sources, even without writing any code. Furthermore, an abstraction layer between HMI and voice assistant allows a faster, more flexible, and continuous integration of the voice assistant into the in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) platforms.
