Missing liquor: Four policemen suspended in Yamunanagar

YAMUNANAGAR: Four cops were suspended and a departmental enquiry initiated against them by Haryana Police in Yamunanagar district on Saturday, over suspicion of them misappropriating some of the illicit liquor which they had seized in Bhogpur village on April 30.
The suspended cops include Radaur police station SHO sub-inspector (SI) Sandeep Kumar, Kheri Lakha Singh police post in-charge SI Jasbir Singh, and their constable drivers Sukhwinder Singh and Subhash Chand.
Yamunanagar superintendent of police (SP) Himanshu Garg said the enquiry had been initiated to find out the cops’ role in misappropriation of seized liquor.
As per the information, on April 30, a case was registered related to the seizure of 205 boxes of illicit liquor against two men, Virender alias Sunny and Rakesh alias Babla of Bhogpur village, under Section 188 (disobedience of orders of public servant) and 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Excise Act at Radaur police station.
A police spokesperson said the case was registered after a the tip-off that Virender and Rakesh were going to sell illicit liquor towards Mustafabad and had liquor loaded in a large quantity in a tractor-trolley. Acting on this, a check post was laid and police seized 205 boxes (2,460 bottles) of illicit liquor. The accused, the cops had claimed, fled from the spot, leaving the vehicle and liquor behind.”
Sources sid the suspended cops misappropriated some quantity of the seized liquor and also took action against the accused persons. The matter of some of the liqur going missing then reached senior officials. The quantity of liquor misappropriated is yet to be ascertained.
An enquiry into this case was marked to Jagadhri DSP Sudhir Taneja, who submitted his report to Yamunanagar SP Himanshu on Saturday, who suspended the four cops and initiated the probe. “We suspect they misappropriated some liquor boxes. Therefore, suspended officials are being questioned and facts being verified under a departmental enquiry. Action will be taken according to the findings,” he said,
