Kuruvai season: Tamil Nadu govt must extend financial support to delta farmers, Stalin says

CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin on Monday asked the Tamil Nadu government to provide financial support to delta farmers, who were preparing for kuruvai season.
In a statement, Stalin said farmers were hit badly by the lockdown. “Farmers must be given interest-less loans. Similarly, rates of seeds, fertilizers and diesel should be subsidised for them. There should be no shortage of supply of any of the above, and the government must support all farmers,” he said.
He said agriculture labourers should be given masks and hand sanitizers free of cost and the government, especially chief minister, should make arrangements for the same.
“The water level in Mettur dam is at 100 feet, there should be no delay in releasing water on June 12. As the southwest monsoon forecast is good, the government must prepare itself to support the delta farmers,” he stated.
