The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has decided to conduct the SSC examination in Goa as well as on the border sides of Maharashtra and Karnataka to facilitate 297 students, who resided in these border areas but studied in schools located on the border sides of Goa.
The Goa Board, after reviewing the situation, noticed that the 297 students from the two states found it difficult to cross over to Goa for answering the SSC exam commencing on May 21, due to the travel restrictions, which have come into force due to the ongoing corona pandemic.
A senior Goa Board official told ‘The Navhind Times’ Sunday evening that many retired teachers as well as headmasters earlier teaching in Goan schools are now residing on the border sides of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
“We have identified these teachers and headmasters to conduct the SSC exam on the other side of the border areas as also decided to set up 3 to 4 exam sub-centres for these students,” the official added, pointing out that necessary permissions for conducting the exam have also been sought from the Maharashtra as well as Karnataka governments.
The Goa Board will hand over the examination material including answer papers to these identified teachers and headmasters and ask them to conduct the exam. There are seven main papers to be answered at the exam.
Speaking further, the Goa Board official maintained that all preparations for holding the SSC exam are nearly completed.
The sanitisation of the examination halls, demarcation of 200-metre distance from the exam centre to keep the parents of the students away and other things are being put in place.
It was also informed that the SSC exam will be conducted at 29 centres in around 1,620 classrooms.
Furthermore, in addition to the conductor, deputy conductor and observer posts for handling the SSC exam, the Goa Board has decided to create another post of team leader, who would coordinate with the volunteers placed at each examination hall and ensure that all corona pandemic-related guidelines are strictly followed.
