MANGALURU: A 31-year-old-youth who voluntarily came for testing is among the two Covid-19 positive cases that Dakshina Kannada district reported on Sunday. He was among the 55 fresh cases that the state reported in 24-hours ending 5pm on Sunday. The other case reported is that of 35-year-old woman (P-1095) with travel history from Mumbai. Total active cases in DK with these two fresh cases has gone up to 30 with five deaths as on date.
The state bulletin cryptically mentioned that ‘contact under tracing’ is on for the youth, dubbed P-1094. Officials in the district administration and department of health and family welfare said the contact tracing process for this youth, a businessman will be a herculean task given that he has a history of travel to Delhi. Efforts are on to corroborate large parts of his travel history from the time he left Delhi till he reached the city on May 13.
Gayathri Nayak, deputy director, district urban development cell, in-charge of district bulletin told TOI that steps are on to confirm his travel to Dubai, while it is certain that he was in Delhi prior to heading home. The youth, authorities said is believed to have travelled to Maharashtra, Telangana, Bengaluru and reached his relative’s house at Jeppu Patna in Mangaluru taluk, parts of which with 48 houses DC Sindhu B Rupesh has designated as containment zone.
Noting it was his desperation to reach home at any cost that saw him criss-cross the Southern peninsula, Gayathri said youth used various means of transport to reach home including walking parts the journey by foot. “Asymptomatic, he voluntarily came to a designated testing centre in Deralakatte on May 13 and his reports received during the day confirmed him to be positive. He has been shifted to the designated Covid19 hospital in the city,” she said.
