Phil May has died. He was 75 years old.
The English vocalist, known for being the frontman of Pretty Things, died at Kings Lynn hospital on Friday, 15 May, the band's management confirmed, according to BBC.
The Guardian reports that the musician had fallen off his bicycle earlier in the week and died from complications following hip surgery after the accident.
He is survived by his partner, Colin Graham, as well as his son, Paris May and daughter, Sorrel May.
Phil founded Pretty Things with Dick Taylor – a founding member of The Rolling Stones – in 1963, and they went on to become hugely successful with chart-toppers such as Rosalyn and Don't Bring Me Down.
They later embraced the psychedelic rock genre and released S. F. Sorrow, which is known widely as the first-ever rock opera, according to Pitchfork.
The band released several albums and were active throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s, and released their last one in 2015 with The Sweet Pretty Things (Are in Bed Now, Of Course...). Phil last performed in December 2018.
The band was admired by fellow artists including David Bowie, who even went on to cover Rosalyn and Don't Bring Me Down.
