Active COVID-19 cases in Goa rise to 22

Goa on Sunday recorded nine fresh confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total tally of active cases in the state to 22.

As per the health bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services, of the nine persons who tested positive for the dreaded virus, eight have travelled by train from Maharashtra and one by road from Karnataka.

The one who travelled from Karnataka is a 23-year-old male worker, who was brought in the state along with other workers from Karwar district. He entered Goa from the Pollem checkpost on May 14 and was quarantined at Vasco.

All nine COVID positive patients have been shifted to the ESI Hospital in Margao, which is designated for treating COVID positive patients.

On May 14, eight confirmed cases of the dreaded virus were reported in Goa while on May 16 five more cases were reported in the state. Till date, Goa has seen 29 confirmed cases of COVID-19 of which seven patients have recovered from the disease.  

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the government has given instructions to the concerned officers to quarantine the passengers, who travelled with the individuals who have tested positive so as to prevent community transmission in Goa.
