Gujarat GSEB HSC Science result announced; 71.34% cleared, lowest in eight years
AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Sunday declared HSC science stream result with a pass percentage of 71.34% which is the lowest result in eight years. The result is around 1.09% less as compared to 2018, where 72.99% of students had passed the exam.
This was the third result where the students were judged on the class XII results only. In March 2017, it was the last semester IV examination conducted by the board. The Gujarat Government had from June 2017 scrapped the semester system and had decided to have only one examination and that is of class XII.
A total of 83,111 students out of 1,16,494 students who appeared for the class 12th (science) examination were declared pass by the board. Students in A group with mathematics posted 76.62% results while the result of B group students with biology was 68.21%.
The pass out percentage of the boys was more than that of the boys. While the pass out percentage was 70.85% for the girls, it was 71.69% for the boys.
English-medium students once again fared better than their Gujarati medium counterparts posting 74.02% pass out percentage. The same for the Gujarati medium was 70.77%.
Of the total 139 centres where the examination was conducted, the result of Dhrol in Jamnagar was the highest at 91.42% while that of Limkheda centre had the lowest at 23.02 per cent, GSEB said. This is the third consecutive year that Dhrol has topped the centre chart.
Among districts, Rajkot secured the highest pass percentage at 84.69% per cent while tribal-dominated Chhota Udepur district recorded the lowest percentage at 32.64%. In 2018 and 2019 also, it was the same Rajkot which had led the district while Chhota Udepur was at the bottom.
A total of 36 schools recorded 100 per cent results this year, down from 42 in 2018 and 117 such schools in 2017. The number of schools securing 10 per cent or lower pass percentage also increased to 49 compared to 49 schools last year, the GSEB said.
